Note: The inscription in the lower margin of the print attests to "pentimenti" in regard to the papal name, suggesting that the print was possibly begun during the reign of one pope, and completed during a subsequent papacy; Moore refutes the dating of the print to 1758 by Scalabroni and dates the print to 1756, the year that Lorenzo Colonna first participated in the ceremony of the Chinea, following the death of his father Fabrizio Colonna on 28 October 1755; Dedication in the lower margin: A Sua Eccellenza il Sig.re D. Lorenzo Colonna Principe del Soglio Pontificio Gran Contestabile del Regno di Napoli, Grande di Spagna di prima Classe, Cavaliere dell'Insigne Ordine del Tofon d'oro e di quello di S. Gennaro, e Gentiluomo della Camera Reale &C; Sicilian printmaker and painter from Corleone, who moved to Rome in 1736; The print shows the departure from Piazza Farnese in Rome of the cavalcade accompanying the Chinea, or white horse, and Don Lorenzo Colonna, ambassador extraordinary of King Carlo di Borbone of the Two Sicilies, for the ceremony of homage to the Pope; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no.
