Aust; Austrian engraver, who collaborated with his brother Andreas; The print depicts the story told by Livy of the Roman commander Publius Decius Mus who, visited by a divine apparition, decides to sacrifice himself to the gods of the Underworld in order to save his army in a battle against the Latins; Related to Rubens's oil sketch for the tapestries series of the Story of Decius Mus, the print is after the canvas version (Vienna, Liechtenstein Museum, Inv. 49), that has also been attributed to van Dyck.
