Note: Announced by the Journal de la cour et de la ville, December 4, 12, 17, 21, 1791; The satirical print shows the newly elected mayor of Paris, Pétion, walking on a tightrope in front of the Hôtel de Ville at the Place de Grève; Pétion's predecessor, Bailly, warns him against rumblers, while La Fayette, who has lost the election, plays the drums. The balancing act is accompanied by the music of an orchestra composed of Parisian ladies and members of the National Assembly; Forms part of: Prints of the French Revolution, 1774-ca. 1840 (Special Collections, accn. no.
