Note: The signature of the etcher has been partially erased. The print is derived from Vasi's etching titled: Disegno del arco trionfale inalzato d'ordine di Sua Maestà il re delle Due Sicilie Gerusalemme &c. per il passaggio della s. di n. sig.re papa Clemente XIII al possesso della basilica di S. Gio. Laterano il dì 12 novemb. 1758. Sicilian printmaker and painter from Corleone, who moved to Rome in 1736. The print shows a triumphal arch commissioned by King Ferdinando IV of Naples in honor of Pope Pius VI's taking possession of San Giovanni in Laterano on November 30, 1775. The papal cavalcade to the basilica is depicted as it proceeds in front of the portal of the Orti farnesiani, through the ephemeral arch, which was designed by Francesco Milizia, and the nearby Arch of Titus, toward the Colosseum. The inscription on the print suggests that it was issued before the procession took place, which was planned on November 19, but postponed later on, November 30, because of heavy rain; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no. P910002**).Publication: [1775].
