Note: "Pet. Paul. Rubens pinxit S. à Bolswert sculpsit"--lower left beneath the image; "Gillis Hendricx excudit"--lower right beneath the image; State IV of five (cf. Hollstein), state III of three (cf. Duituit); The Flemish engraver Schelte Adamsz Bolswart, brother of Boëce van Bolswert, first worked in Amsterdam and in Antwerp. He produced a large number of reproductive prints after Rubens, Jordaens, van Dyck, and other artists; A reproductive print by Schelte Bolswert after a Rubens painting in the Museo nacional del Prado, Madrid (cf. Jaffé). It forms part of a suite of twenty landscape paintings named "The set of the small landscapes" (cf. Hollstein). The painting remained in Rubens's inventory until his death. The print is the reverse of the painting; The scene shows sixteen men and women in a rural landscape, performing a round dance. A dog leaps along, another dog is partly visible behind the dancers. Behind the dancing peasants a man sits in the tree, playing a flute. A house appears in the landscape in the far left. Publication: [between 1638 and 1645]. "Pet. Paul.
