Note: The feast was celebrated by members of the Rosary confraternity (Arciconfraternita del S. Rosario) in commemoration of the Battle of Lepanto against the Ottoman Turks (Oct. 7, 1571). Impressions of the etching were issued with: Quaranta, O. Relatione della solenne processione fatta in Roma nell'anno santo MDCLXXV dall'archiconfraternità del Santissimo Rosario (Rome, 1675); An archaeologist, draftsman, etcher, and painter from Perugia, Pietro Santi Bartoli was active in Rome where he etched views of ancient monuments; The print depicts the macchina designed by Sebastiano Giannini, that was carried in the procession of the feast of the Rosary in Rome on Oct. 6 or 7, 1675; The macchina incorporates an image of the Virgin and Child by Fra Angelico, inscribed Signum Magnum, and a figure of the Archangel Michael in combat with the seven-headed dragon of the Apocalypse; Glued to mount with print P910002** (FF. 797). The mount is annotated in brown ink: Pietro Santi Bartoli Perugino Pittore e Grande Intagliatore ... / [Ha] Intagliato in 18. Fogli la Colonna Traiana, e tante altre notate nel Indice del Rosso Abecedario // 45 / 73. Small holes indicate previous binding; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no. P910002**).
