Note: The plate etched for this conclave was used again with some modifications for the conclaves held in 1679 and 1691 (cf. Bellini); Draftsman and etcher from Valduggia, Novara, who was active in Rome; The print depicts the ceremonial of the conclave that was summoned on August 2, 1676 after the death of Pope Clement X, and which elected Cardinal Benedetto Odescalchi as pope under the name of Innocent XI on September 21, 1676; Ground-plans of the Basilica of St. Peter's and of the Vatican Palace are framed by sixteen vignettes of ceremonies and rituals. The cardinals who participated in the conclave are listed on a banderole. A dedication to Mons.r Corsi, chierico di cam:ra e gou.re del conclaue by the printer Giovanni Giacomo de' Rossi is printed in a cartouche; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no.
