Note: Jacques-Firmin Beauvarlet, an etcher, engraver and printer from Abbeville, moved to Paris in 1750. In 1762, he was appointed graveur du roi and was approved (agréé) by the Académie royale; The print documents the painting by Jean-François de Troy, known as Before the ball (J. Paul Getty Museum, Inv. 84.PA.668). De Troy exhibited this painting under the title Une toilette de bal at the Salon in 1737, along with its companion piece Le retour du bal. The execution of the print was announced in June 1757 in the Mercure de France; Gift of Etienne Breton. Publication: A Paris : Chez Mar[c]el rue St. Julien no. 12 pres la rue St. Jacque, [ca. 1757].
