Note: After the defeat of the Jacobites in 1715, the prince of Wales had resettled in Rome, where he was given royal honors. The arch is decorated with allegorical figures and James Stuart's coat of arms. The title is inscribed in a central cartouche at the bottom of the print. The draftsman is identified in the lower left corner: Abb. Carolus Stephanus Fontana inv. et delin., and the engraver in the lower right corner: Hier. Frezza sculp. Roma; The print represents the design for an arch to be erected over a fountain in front of Castel Gandolfo for the fireworks of June 17, 1717, presumably in honor of James Edward Stuart; Trimmed within plate mark.
