Note: Impressions of the etching were issued in the funeral book Funebris pompa... and again later on by the printer de' Rossi in Libro de catafalchi, tabernacoli con varii disegni ... (Rome, [s.d]). Printmaker and architect, whose early works as architect include the catafalques designed for the funeral ceremonies in honor of Cardinal Alessandro Farnese; The print depicts the catafalque designed by Girolamo Rainaldi for the memorial service of Cardinal Alessandro Farnese, held on April 28, 1589 at the chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo in Rome and ordered by the archconfraternity of Gonfalone; The catafalque features a tempietto, octagonal in plan, decorated with a portrait-medallion and a tablet inscribed: MEMORIA IVSTI / MANET / IN AETERNVM; Portions of the floral border and of the inscription in the plate's lower margin are cropped: ... ROMAE DIE XXVIII APRĨS MDLXXXIX; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no. P910002**).
