Note: State of engraving with Orlandi's imprint not listed in Robert-Dumesnil and Linzeler; French painter, engraver and architect, who was also active in Rome; The print depicts a joust held on March 5, 1565, in the Cortile del Belvedere of the Vatican Palace, in celebration of the wedding of Jakob Hannibal Hohenems, also known as Jacopo Annibale Altemps, who was the nephew of Pope Pius IV, to Ortensia Borromeo, half-sister of Cardinal Charles Borromeo; The tournament is performed before onlookers watching from the theater hemicyle, the palace balconies, and the colossal steps at the northern end of the courtyard. Fireworks errupt in the background from a loggia above the "Nicchione"; Trimmed within plate mark and with loss of part of the engraver's signature; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no. P910002**).
