Note: Impressions of the etching were issued with the booklet: Alfea reverente ... (In Pisa : Appresso Francesco delle Dote, 1639); Tuscan etcher from Pisa, who served as chamberlain at the imperial court in Innsbruck, as governor of the Fortezza vecchia in Livorno and as governor of the fortress in Siena; The print depicts the festival Alfea reverente celebrated in Pisa in 1639, in honor of the visit of Vittoria della Rovere, consort of Grand Duke Ferdinand II; A procession with floats and chariots is seen approaching Piazza San Nicola and the Palazzo reale from the right. In the background, the facade of the Duomo, the cupola of the Baptistery and the leaning tower appear amidst rooftops of the cityscape. The entire procession is depicted in the foreground on a parapet that is flanked by two cippi bearing standards; The etcher's statement of responsibility visible in the lower left corner of other impressions does not appear in library's print; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no. P910002**).
