Note: A scale is printed below the catafalque with the inscription: Scala di palmi 25. di Genoua; The Bolognese etcher and painter Giovanni Antonio Lorenzini was a Franciscan monk in the monastery of San Francesco, Bologna, and subsequently at Santa Croce, Florence, and was thus named Fra Antonio; The print shows the plan and the elevation of a catafalque. The sepulchral monument is decorated with a medallion portrait revealing the youth of the deceased and with a coat of arms of the Gonzaga family. The shield is quartered with a displayed eagle in each compartment and is ensigned with a coronet; Trimmed within plate mark and with possible loss of inscriptions in the plate's lower margin; Glued to mount annotated in brown ink: Fr. Antonius Lorenzini Min. Conv. Incisor; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no. P910002**). Publication: [17--]. | |
