Note: Botti, a diplomat and major steward at the Medici court, had been sent to Marradi on October 11, 1608, with other Florentine dignitaries, to welcome the archduchess. The entry program was created by Count Giovanni Bardi da Vernio; The print depicts the solemn entry of Maria Maddalena of Austria into Florence on October 18, 1608, and is dedicated to Marchese Matteo Botti; The print shows the procession from Porta al Prato to the Palazzo Pitti, through the triumphal arches, numbered A to F, erected in the city. Inscriptions identify the main figures and the captions below the image specify the decoration and iconography of the arches, as well as other "apparati", infantrymen, and paraders numbered G to L. Ephemeral decorations erected for the occasion are shown, such as the Duomo's facade and the triumphal arches designed by Ludovico Cardi da Cigoli; The draftsman and etcher Mathieu Greuter was presumably born in Strasbourg, but he may have been Flemish. From 1606, he was active in Rome, where he died in 1638; Library has another impression of the etching bound in: Camillo Rinuccini's Descrizione delle feste ...
