Note: Agniolo Ricci was the choreographer of the ballet. The Florentine architect and engineer Giulio Parigi, who directed the feasts at the Medici court during the reigns of Cosimo II and Ferdinando II, designed the amphitheater, the floats and the costumes; Impressions of the etching were issued with Andrea Salvadori's description of the festivities: Gverra di bellezza ... (In Firenze : Nella stamperia di Zanobi Pignoni, 1616); Inscription in the plate's lower margin: Qui fecero 42 Caualieri diuersi abbattimenti e di poi un balletto ci si uido ancora una battaglia a piedi di 300 persone, oltre i Carri e l'altra gente per diuersi seruitij; The print depicts the horse ballet Guerra di bellezza performed in Piazza Santa Croce, Florence, on the evening of October 16, 1616, in honor of the visit of Prince Federico Ubaldo della Rovere of Urbino, who was betrothed to Claudia de' Medici; The floats of Thetis, the Sun and Parnassus are seen entering the arena. Infantry and galloping cavaliers circle to the center of the arena, and proceed out in a heart-shaped procession; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no.
