Note: The print depicts the ceremonial of the conclave that was summoned on August 23, 1689, after the death of Pope Innocent XI, which elected Cardinal Pietro Vito Ottoboni as Pope Alexander VIII; The etching is derived, with some modifications, from the one signed by Giovanni Battista Falda for the election of Pope Clement X in 1669. The catafalque of Pope Innocent XI is shown, and a vignette has been introduced, depicting the ceremony during which the cardinal-camerlengo verifies the death of the pope; Forms part of the Collection of festival prints, 1530-1887 (Special Collections accn. no.
