Note: The print has a central fold line with a paper guard pasted on the back. It represents the special regata held in honor of the second visit of King Frederick IV of Denmark to Venice on the 4th of May, 1709. The scene shows the Canal Grande from Palazzo Foscari on the left and Palazzo Contarini on the right, up to the Ponte da Rialto, as indicated in the legend on the bottom of the print, which lists the buildings along the canal and the main boats (peotas) of the Venetian notables. In the foreground is the ornamented "macchina" (where the prizes were distributed) and the "bissona" (big gondola) carrying the King; The original painting by Luca Carlevaris is at the Castle of Fredericksborg in Denmark. In 1711 the artist painted a replica (with slight differences in detail), previously in the Lazzaroni collection in Rome, and since 1986 at the J.P. Getty Museum. Baroni's print reproduces the painting in Denmark and it is not part of a suite of Venetian "vedute" after Carlevaris; Engraver active in Rome and Venice, where he died in 1730. He contributed engravings for the series "Il gran teatro delle pitture e prospettive di Venezia" in 1720.
