Note: The publisher (Steidlin) has been identified as the engraver as well. cf. Thieme-Becker; A similar engraved drawing by Thran and Steidlin viewed from the opposite vantage point was also issued in 1739. cf. Valdenaire. The print shows how the city of Karlsruhe was planned with the palace tower at the center and streets radiating out like the spokes of a wheel or the ribs of a folding fan; thus the nickname for Karlsruhe is Fächerstadt (fan city).
