The Union List of Artist Names (ULAN) is a directory of names and biographical information for two hundred thousand artists and architects. Researchers can examine variant spellings of names from a wide-range of contemporary and historical sources, including abstracting and indexing services, visual resource collections, object collections, and scholarly documentation projects.

Names in the ULAN are supplemented by citations to more than twenty-seven thousand reference sources, covering biographical dictionaries, scholarly articles, and historical documents including inventories and auction records.
