Robert Irwin's Central Garden was commissioned by the J. Paul Getty Trust as a work of art. It offers visitors a range of experiences that are mediated by the hour of the day, the time of year, and the weather. The foliage and materials selected by Irwin accentuate the boundless interplay of light and color. This moody rendering of the Central Garden on a rainy day was captured by photographer John Lewis with an antique swing-lens panoramic camera.
