    Check out Margaret Tafoya from the Santa Clara pueblo. She is best known
    for carving deeply into the burnished clay surface, leaving a relief design
    of polished clay against a matte, unpolished surface. Her pots are large
    and luscious and are a great example of relief surface decoration. The St.
    Louis Museum of Art has a wonderful resource folder with info. and slides on
    Native American potters.
