Panel: David Tudor's Sea Tails

The Getty Research Institute presents a discussion with kite artist Jackie Matisse, filmmaker Molly Davies, composer and scholar Ron Kuivila of Wesleyan University, and Jean Rigg, board member of the Merce Cunningham Dance Foundation and long-time promoter of David Tudor's work. Discussion will center on the visual artists' collaborative roles on Sea Tails, their initial conceptions of the piece, and their goals in producing it with David Tudor. The panel will also explore why Tudor performed the piece at an electronic tabletop to the accompaniment of the video and sound score. Moderated by exhibition curator Nancy Perloff.
