Building the Getty Collection: A Decade of Acquisitions
Lee Hendrix, senior curator, Department of Drawings; Thomas Kren, senior curator, Department of Manuscripts; and Weston Naef, senior curator, Department of Photographs, the J. Paul Getty Museum, each discuss significant acquisitions they have made for the Museum over the past decade. Their presentations will consider such challenges as locating important works, navigating the art market, and making the best decisions for the Museum collections. Gallery Course

A selection of recent acquisitions is presented by a Getty Museum curator in an illustrated lecture. A museum educator follows with a viewing and discussion of the selected masterpieces. Novice and seasoned museumgoers are invited to join in this unique experience of the Museum's collection.

Studio Courses

Drawing From the Old Masters: Making Your Mark
Join artist Stas Orlovski and discover how old masters utilized mark-making to express movement, texture, and light. Participants will examine works of art from the collection and participate in guided drawing lessons while exploring techniques such as dry washes, hatching, and the use of blending tortillions.

Drawing From the Old Masters: Drawing the Figure from Life
Join artist Glenn Vilppu and learn to draw the human figure in a step-by-step process focusing on placement, proportion, and basic construction. Participants will work from a life model, participate in guided drawing lessons in the studio, and study masterworks from the Getty Museum's collection.
